Two days, one window and forty pots. What we planned, what the light did instead, and why the outtakes ended up on the homepage.
Kiln House sells out at every market and had never sold a piece online. They gave us two days in the studio, one north-facing window and forty pots straight from the autumn firing.
The plan
A clean product set on a stone plinth, one piece at a time, shot square for the shop grid. Three wider pictures for the homepage. Nothing clever.
What the light did
At four on the first afternoon the sun came round the building opposite and threw a hard stripe across the bench. We had ten minutes of it. The pictures from those ten minutes are the ones on the homepage, and the plinth set went to the product pages where it belongs.
The lesson is an old one. Plan the pictures you need, then leave room for the ones you could not have planned.
